Abstract

Operational response is defined as the initial period of action during a developing or ongoing dam safety emergency. An effective emergency plan for dam emergencies with a high potential hazard is a key document for preventing (reducing) loss of life and property damage. Because of changing downstream conditions, dam safety should be an ongoing process. Plans should be reviewed and updated regularly. The purpose of this article is to update the most important aspects of dam safety and emergency response plans.

Key words: accident, dam, plan, notification, evacuation, prompt response.
